It helps to include your iPhone model and, for a problem on a drive, the diagnostics log: in the app, open Settings › Diagnostics (or press and hold the RoadTales name), then tap the share button.
How do I get a story?
Tap Start exploring and drive. The first story starts within about twenty seconds, about the nearest place worth telling. After that, stories come every few minutes as you pass new places. To hear one right away — parked at a viewpoint, say — tap Play now. To end the drive, press and hold the stop button.
How many stories can I hear?
RoadTales is free, with three new stories a day. Replaying a story you've already heard doesn't count. When the day's stories are used up the app says so, and new ones start again the next day (at midnight UTC).
Why does it need my location?
To know which places are near you and ahead of you. "Always" lets stories keep playing with the phone locked in the car; "While Using" works too, as long as the app stays open. You can change this any time in the iPhone Settings app.
It stopped talking. Why?
When the car has been still for about five minutes, RoadTales parks itself to save battery and picks up again when you drive off — or tap Play now. It also waits for your navigation voice to finish before it speaks.
A story got a fact wrong.
Stories are written by AI from Wikipedia and Wikivoyage articles about the place. They're usually right, but they can contain mistakes. Please tell us which place and what was wrong — it helps.
Does it work with my music and CarPlay?
Yes. Keep Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube or anything else playing: RoadTales lowers the music while it tells a story and brings it back up afterwards. In the car, stories play through CarPlay like any other audio and show on the Now Playing screen.
Can I change how much it talks?
Yes: tap the settings button at the top right of the main screen. Choose Quiet, Normal or Talkative.
